One of my a-ho buddies would sneak a full beer can into the fire when no one was looking, and yeah, it would explode.
Toss a buckyeye in and it will explode also.
If the riverbank / lake bank has a lot of shale sand, you can grab a handful. When the fire is dwindling, stand up and loudly make some inane pronouncement, then yell "IT SHALL BE DONE!" and throw the shale into the fire. The fire will roar to life with sparks.
